Ten years ago, Christine (Katie Fountain)
was kidnapped from her father's home in the forest, abused, and how she
ever came back alive remains a mystery to this day. Now, Christine's
father is dead, and she wants to sell his place, but not before paying it
one more visit with her boyfriend Trey (Ace Cruz) and an acquainted
couple, Jack (Derek Lee Nixon) and Molly (Natasha Lyonne), to party.
Instead of that though, a gang of brutes led by Farragut (Michael Madsen)
pays the group a visit to kill and rape, and before you know it, Jack and
Molly are dead and Christine and Trey are on the run. They manage to
somehow kill off Farragut's men, but Farragut himself is a tougher cookie
... Somehow, the spirit of a deceased hick (Paulyd) who watches over
Christine is thrown into the mix, so is a shaman with limitless healing
powers (Michael Berryman) and a banjo player (Billy Redden) who has
something supernatural about him. Oh, and I should mention at this point
that Farragut was actually the man who kidnapped Christine all those years
ago, and maybe also that she's still a virgin (just so you know who's
going to survive). In the finale, it turns out that Trey is actually an
accomplice of Farragut, and the two wanted to get their hands on
Christine's father's money, hidden somewhere in his mansion. When it comes
to shooting Christine though, Trey is overcome by guilt (partly thanks to
the spirit world) and turns on Farragut, and the two shoot each other dead
... A piece of survival horror with Michael Madsen as the main
psycho - now that sounds promising. Unfortunately though, the film as a
whole just isn't, and the main problem is that director Ace Cruz seems to
be unable to create shocks, tension or suspense, the three main
ingredients to survival horror. On top of that, he is let down by much of
his cast (excluding Katie Fountain and Michael Madsen of course, but
including himself as an actor) who just don't react to what's dished out
to them properly. Plus, most of the dialogue is pretty badly written and
seems to come right out of a daily soap, which really damages the
emotional foundation of the film's plot. Oh, and don't even get me started
about all the supernatural mumbojumbo involved ... Pretty much a bunch
of garbage.
