Jake's (Adam Collins) a decorated veteran who has worked with special
ops when back home - but then a mission to save the family of politician
Harry Archibald (Ian Hichens) goes terribly wrong, and Jake's relieved
from his job. He soon falls into a loop of sex, drugs and alcohol that
ultimately leaves him a homeless bum ... until he's tracked down by his
childhood friend Jade (Jessica Norris). Jade is one of the few who
believes that Archibald, now mayor of Nottingham, is not the model
politician everybody's taking him for, and now she's got proof, a tape
that proves that he personally executed the former mayor of the city
(Melvyn Rawlinson). Thing is, if that tape's handed to the police, it's
almost sure to get "lost", so a mercenary like Jake is Jade's
best chance. Jake tries to assemble his own crew to take down Archibald,
but then one of them (Andy Calderwood) spills the beans to the enemy, and
ultimately it's Jake against Archibald's small army guarding him in city
hall - and Archibald has Jade as his hostage ...
Outlawed is one of the rare movies that manages to
bridge the gap between character-driven drama and high octane action
flick, basically because it understands the necessity of proper narrative
build-up to all its action scenes, including moody bits and the like, but
really doesn't let up when it comes to action as such, as these scenes are
well-choreographed and quite brutal. And of course, that the overall
storyline really sucks one in, as well as the competent cast, doesn't hurt
one bit either, making this a very entertaining and enjoyable action
spectacle.
