American photographer Rita (Cloris Leachman) has come to Paris to
capture the spirit of France by photographing its inhabitants - and as her
first model, she has chosen Jean (Marcel Dalio), a weird yet quiet man who
one day just shows up at her apartment out of the blue. When he shows up
at the apartment again the next day, Jean actually tries to kill Rita, but
when the police arrives answering to her calls, no trace of him can be
found, and he seems to be missing from all the photos Rita shot the other
day. Eventually, a policeman takes Rita to the grave of a man who died 30
years ago, and who is identified as Rita's model - a serialkiller who
lived in Rita's house all the time back. Oh well, a very
mediocre episode of One Step Beyond, a series that had quite
a few highlights during its three-years run - this one not being one of
them. Problem is probably that the build-up of the story seems all wrong
as all of its supernatural elements are pulled out of the hat only in the
very last minute and in a very unspectacular way when everything suggested
a psycho-duel between a woman suffering from headaches and a weirdo.
