Tim (Bill Bixby) has a problem: His boss (J. Pat O'Malley) has
entrusted him with his dog George to look after while he's on vacation,
and the dog has hit a melancholic streak and refuses to eat. Fortunately,
Tim's roommate from Mars, Uncle Martin (Ray Walston), can talk to dog and
finds out George is madly in love with Chloe, the dog of Tim's neighbour
Marsha (Laura Shelton). Thing is, Marsha's heart has only recently be
broken, and so she not only detests all men but keeps Chloe away from male
dogs. Martin now uses all his Martian magic to still find a way for Tim to
romance Marsha, and indeed, sparks start to fly - when the neighbour's
teen daughter Angela (Ann Marshall) who's madly in love with Tim (without
him being aware of it) finds out, and she paints Tim as a womanizer to
Marsha, so much so that Marsha breaks off all communication with Tim - or
with George for that matter, much to George and Chloe's distress. Martin,
seeing he has made a bit of a mess, sends for Howard (Linden Chiles), the
very man who has broken Marsha's heart, and Howard dashes right back into
her heart - leaving Tim not with the girl but with Chloe ... Nothing
special perhaps but a fun romantic comedy packed into a 1960s sitcom
that's of course not free of clichées and that feels slightly antiquated
from today's point of view, but at the same time it hits all the right
marks. And Ray Walston and Bill Bixby make a good comedic duo to pull off
the episode's silliness rather convincingly.
