Tyler (Andy Salgado) is ... well, different. He's rather effeminate in
appearance, not exactly muscle-bound, he stutters, is extremely shy - in
other words, the perfect target for bullies. And he is bullied at school -
a lot. For the longest time, Summer (Amber Watson) has stood up for him,
has kept things under control ... and this has led to her having sex with
Tyler - once. But things have changed, Summer is now together with Scott
(Dakota Morrissiey) - of all people, because you know, Scott is the leader
of the pack that bullies Tyler (remember, bullies always travel in packs).
And when Scott learns that Tyler had his girlfriend before him, he makes
Summer join the bullying. She does so only under protest, but she does -
which is pretty much the last strawl for Tyler, so for his revenge, he
visits a voodoo priestess (Frances Sacarello), who hooks her up with his
own avenging angel, Mister White (Carl Summers), the deadly ghost of a
cursed plantation owner from the time of slavery ... and now, one by one,
Mister White takes out Tyler's adversaries - and what makes him extremely
dangerous is that Mister White cannot be seen by anyone ... but Summer,
because Summer is pregnant with Tyler's baby. But even when seen, Mister
White is more than just dangerous, mainly because he cannot be killed -
unless Tyler is killed first ... In writing, this movie might
not sound like much more than your typical slasher - but while the film
does follow genre rules by and large, it does add to the mix by giving its
killer (Tyler, Mister White is only his tool) a backstory, and a backstory
that the audience can identify with. Also, the main victims of the killer
are more than just cannonfodder and do have narrative function other than
being slaughtered. Add to this plenty of suspense and a fair share of
gruesomeness, and you've got yourself a pretty good piece of genre
entertainment. Recommended.
