Rena (then popular singer Gitte) & Susi (Marlene Warrlich) travel
to Kitzbühl, Tyrol, because Susi's professor for children's psychology,
professor Burger (Peter Weck) - whom she has fallen hopelessly in love
with without ever telling him - has gone there too for a job interview
with eccentric & rich American lady Applewhite (Grethe Weiser), who
plans to run a clinic for difficult children in Kitzbühl ... Of course,
the girls get no room in Kitzbühl, so take up jobs in a hotel as
roommaids & to work the telephone switchboards ... & this way they
learn that Mrs Applewhite wants to see Burger right away - just when he is
out - & she makes clear she is rich enough she doesn't have to wait. So,
to save his chances of getting the job, 18-year old Rena dresses up as the
14-year old daughter of Burger & tries - rather successfully - to
charm the shit out of Mrs Applewhite, her right hand man Jushua (Gunther
Philipp), & countess Melanie (Margit Nünke), who wants to sell Mrs
Applewhite her castle ... The problem starts when Burger arrives too
& is a bit surprised that he has a 14-year old daughter - but seeing
his job depends on it he plays along ... of course before long Rena falls
in love with him - which is not a problem as far as Susi is concerned,
since she has fallen in love with a hotel manager (Thomas Alder), but it
somewhat puts an odd twist to her performance as his daughter, even more
so as he still thinks she is 14 years old. On top of all that, Mrs
Applewhite finds out Rena's true identity, but decides to play along for a
while to see him unmask himself ... but it isn't until he is actually
supposed to sign his contract that he confesses everything ... but is
somwhat flabberghasted to find out Rena is of legal age ... However, in
the end, his reputation is saved (rather unexpectedly) by Professor
Krusius (Rudolf Schündler), his competition for head of the clinic, who
confesses to Mrs Applewhite he would have made up even more daughters than
Burger to get the job (would he not have had a better offer from Japan),
& ultimately Burger gets the job after all - & the girl (Rena)
too. Rather unfunny romantic comedy that pretty much wastes all
its comic potential & is instead filled up with Schlager-music
(Schlagers are German-language pop songs, but exclusively from the
cheesy end of the pop music spectrum) & promotion for Kitzbühl, a
popular (& expensive) Tyrolean tourist village, but without actually
showing all that much from its scenic scenery (& I don't know if
that's a good or a bad thing).
