England, the 19th century: When her husband (Mark Delmonde) caught her
in bed with Tom Jones (Forman Shane), Lady Godiva (Marsha Jordan) sees
herself forced to shoot him (the husband I mean´) - and she is convicted
to be hanged for it. However, Tom Jones has not forgotten her, so he
persuades, Liz (Deborah Downey), a barmaid who's hopelessly in love with
him, to break her free with the help of knockout drugs she also uses at
the bar when customers get too fresh. Once Lady Godiva is out, Tom Jones
has booked a passage to America for her and Liz, on a ship full of pretty
girls and horny sailors. Upon arriving in the Wild West, Lady Godiva and
Liz are in for a shock, they are supposed to work as strippers at Kirby's
(James E.Myers) saloon, and he expects them to do the customers special
favours - in other words, he wants them to moonlight as prostitutes. Luckily
for Liz, her very first customer (Bob Kendal) proves to be a very decent
guy, and the two run away together. Lady Godiva does her best to guard
their back, but then Kirby finds out who she really is - and he
immediately knows he has struck gold, because with her being notorious
nobility, her value as a prostitute multiplies considerably. However, when
he is about to rape her, Tom Jones, looking for the love of his life,
appears on scene. Tom Jones challenges Kirby to a duel, but since Kirby is
the best shot West of ... well, some river orm something I suppose, Tom
won't stand a chance - which is why Lady Godiva rides onto the scene in
the nude just when Kirby is about to shoot her Tom dead, and with Kirby
beind distracted, Tom gets a good shot at him and ... well, everything
ends happily of course. Cheaply made piece of period erotica,
boring in some places, unintentionally funny in others, and sometimes just
too shoddily made for even the most forgiving viewer (you should see the
miniature of the ship Gidiva and Liz take to cross the Atlantic). Could
have done with some serious trimming to say the least (it runs more thna
100 minutes on a plot that's worth no more than 60) - but all that said,
it has some of that vintage erotica charm that makes you forget at least
some of its shortcomings.
