John (John Polonia), his kind of slow brother Mark (Mark Polonia) and
their adopted brother Todd (Todd Smith) are left by their mother one day
and supposed to fend for themselves - when Mark is starting to have
hallucinations, hallucinations that involve the Grim Reaper himself.
Initially, he gets on his brothers' nerves ... until they start to have
hallucinations too, hallucinations that get more intense all the time, to
a point where Todd kills himself under the illusion of fighting off his
hallucinations. Next is John, who thinks the hallucinations get too strong
for him, but just in time before he can kill himself as well, Mark
convinces him that it's just hallucinations and nothing more, and the
hallucinations will go away once he refuses to believe in them. Quite
obviously this is a shot-on-video amateur movie, the sound is really bad,
the picture quality shows signs of wear inherent to old video stock, and
the production values are next to none. And quite probably, the crew of
this film wasn't any bigger than the Polonia brothers and Todd Smith, with
the one not in the picture doing behind-the-camera duties (which explains
why there are so few if any shots showing all three characters). Yet Hallucinations
isn't just a bad movie per se, it at least attempts to tell an interesting
story, attempts to add atmosphere to the proceedings, and features at
least a few scary shots. True, the film doesn't necessarily succeed in
living up to its ambitions, and it is seriously hampered by the lack of
budget and resources, but at least, it's a valiant effort.
