Johnny (Chad Anderson), Drew (Severen Cole), Andy (Roberto Arrizon) and
Sal (Chad Meisenheimer) have been best friends since high school, so it
was only a logical next step to move in together - also because it meant
they never really needed to grow up and take responsibility for anything
... which only now catches up with them, as they are behind three months
in rent and need to pay $8,000 by the end of the month or be evicted. Now
of course, neither of our heroes has access to that kind of money or has
the opportunity to earn as much the traditional way - so they need a
get-rich-quick scheme to come up with the dough ... like winning a
basketball game against legendary NBA player Paul Jones (David Ihrig), who
comes into town to hand out 10K to everyone who can win him, now in his
sixties, and his team. Now there's just one small problem to this scheme,
neither of the friends know how to play basketball. Now that problem can
be resolved by blackmailing their old coach (Stevie Haynes) into teaching
them at least the basics. But then there still short of one man to take on
Jones and company, and once they've resolved this problem by employing a
sort-of friend from high school who at least knows how to handle a ball,
they're still no match for Jones or any of his players - and that's not
even the biggest obstacle they have to face ...
In more than one way, this short feels like a throwback to a
time when ensemble sitcoms still reigned supreme, and really in the best
possible way as this is a fast-paced comedy that manages to create its
backstory along with telling its story, relies as much on its fun
characters as its increasingly outlandish situations, and really profits
from its light-footed approach to things. And a strong cast clearly in on
the joke really help to make this one very entertaining watch. Plus, to
come back to that sitcom-comparison from above, it's a short that makes
one want to return to the same group of characters for further adventures
