Julia (Julie Ann Earls) and Dan's (Alex Mandell) relationship has seen
better days, as becomes painfully apparent during a vacation in a cabin in
the woods where they get into a fight about everything and nothing in
particular that ends with Dan storming off and not coming back until Julia
falls asleep half angry and half worried out of her mind. The next morning
though he's there again, and he seems like a changed man, he's
considerate, easy-going, romantic, heck he has even taken up drawing, and
he's just the man she has always wanted him to be - which is of course
nice, if a little creepy. But things get really creepy when she observes
him through the mirror and there's something completely off with him,
something that's only visible in the mirror. So when he goes into the
woods that day for a stroll, she follows him, but is knocked out and
suddenly finds herself tied up, back to back with Dan, only to be
confronted by ... another Dan ... A very cool little
supernatural thriller of the "be careful what you wish
for"-variety that fortunately enough stays clear of giving all the
answers but freaks its audience out by asking the right questions, and
that gets its scares not so much out of the on-screen action but out of an
ever-building feel of unease, wrapped up in an atmospheric yet subtle
directorial effort. And Julie Ann Earls and Alex Mandell really ground the
film with very relatable performances, making this a short that's
definitely worth a watch, and not only for genre fans.
