On his way to LA, small-time crook Buzz (Tom Pace) picks up waitress
Michelle (Leslie McRae), who really wants to be a dancer, whom he promises
to help and whom he soon considers his girl, and Critter (Jody Daniels), a
penniless whatever who carries around a guitar and whom Michelle soon
falls in love with - much to Buzz' dismay, and when he forces her to
choose between her dancing career and Critter, she chooses dancing.
Once in LA, Buzz is really able to help Michelle, thanks to his sister
Joanie (Bara Byrnes), the lead dancer in Leo's (Mark Herron) nightclub,
and soon enough she is climbing up the career ladder - at Joanie's expense
- while Buzz also starts working for Leo as a sort of errand boy and
Critter, who wants to look after Michelle even if she dumped him, becomes
the mopboy in the club ... because you know, bad things are happening in
Leo's nightclub as Leo is really running a narcotics racket and the
errands Buzz is running naturally concern drugs ...
Eventually, with the help of a prison trustee (Harry Lovejoy), Buzz
manages to break both in and out of jail to steal a fortune in
narcotics the cops kept their from a recent raid, and he thinks now he has
made it in the organisation ... but at the same time Critter has finally
convinced Michelle to leave the nightclub, Buzz and Leo, the organisation,
everything with him, which somehow leads to a fistfight between him and
Buzz and Leo, both of whom Critter manages to defeat of course, then he
calls the police and everything ends happily for our two lovers ...
This film, a rather typical backstage/crime drama obviously shot on a
very tight budget, is not without its trashy charm, but by and large it
lacks a stringent screenplay and way too often just seems to go nowhere in
particular - which is not at all helped by a rather underwhelming finale.
Not a complete waste of time maybe, but also not as sleazy nor as
cheesy and certainly not as funny as ads and poster and cover art might
suggest - which is a pity.
