One rainy night, a boy has snuck into the long abandoned Odeon movie
theatre in Chester, armed only with a flashlight, and not sure what to
expect - but whatever he might have expected, he's getting more, as the
place is filled with memories from past movies it played - so it doesn't
take long before the boy crosses paths with Marty McFly and Han Solo (both
played by Nathan Head), finds an alien in its facehugging state, chases a
Gremlin, is chased by a miniature spaceship, is handed a hat by Indiana
Jones, encounters the Hal 9000, and ultimately finds a mysterious ring ... Chester’s
1936 art deco Odeon cinema closed in the late 90's and has stood empty
ever since, but is in the next few years to be redeveloped into a cultural
center - and the Chester Film Co-op was born as part of this
venture. Chat Noir Productions were then commissioned to make three
films about the Odeon, the first to be shot inside the abandoned cinema
... and the result is a movie lover's dream, a little light-weight
adventure that's pretty much an hommage to (younger) film history, as the
young lead seems to just stumble from one film scene into the next
(neither lasting more than a few seconds), which are lovingly recreated,
with at the same time using the location to its fullest advantage. And
wisely enough, the film is also short enough to not outstay its welcome
and offering good entertainment while it lasts. A
fun ride, really.
