An old woman and her grandson have been killed in a hit-and-run accident, and cops Sgt Fiday (Jack Webb) and
officer Smith (Ben Alexander) have nothing more to go on than the fact the truck of the offender was a bakery delivery
truck. Still, that’s enough for the two to eventually track down the owner of the truck, Miller (Kyle James), yet he claims
that by he time the accident happened he had borrowed the truck to someone else, an acquaintance called Paul (Walter
Reed), and after the incident he had simply disappeared. There are several gaping holes in Miller’s story, yet Firday has a
hunch he’s telling the truth anyways … and a few days later, Paul – whose driving license was revoked for drunk-driving –
is brought in for questioning, but he firmly stands his ground, until Miller is brought in as well, upon which he breaks down
and confesses.
What this episode – as the whole series – claims to have in authencity, it sure enough lacks in suspense.
Actually, this one is a very weak episode that mercilessly chops its story down to approximately 25 minutes,
leaves plotholes open and doesn’t even try to build up tension. That all makes for a boring TV-crime drama.
Not really worth one’s time for other than nostalgic reasons.
