Years ago, Doctor Abel Cotrel (Ron Fitzgerald) was a brilliant
psychiatrist ... but of course, he was totally mad, as his surgery on the
live brain, losing patients to prove his point, ably demonstrates, or his
predilection for human flesh ... as his food of choice of course. Dr
Cotrel has been institutionalized of course, but has broken out of the
asylum, and a trail of blood proves he's gone to Chicago to do his evil
handiwork - cannibalism that is. Joe (Matt Ukena) is a
straight A medical student who has accepted internship at Dr Clarice
Fell's (Claire 'Fluff" Llewellyn) for some extra credit - but the eccentric woman puzzles him a bit,
and even more puzzling is the fact that she has a live human being
strapped to her operating table - but she calms him and tells him what a
bad man her test subject was, and that she just
wants to find his conscience ... but of course she fails to add that she
wants to do this by splitting her live subject's head open ... Basically, Conscience
is just great fun! It's a trip through many horror mainstays, and it
steals from here and there (always adding some extra dry humour though),
gets bloody should need be, but above all else, the little movie remains
deliciously macabre throughout. Definitely worth a watch. ...
