Dr. Pretorious (Steve Larkin) has gathered a very small group in his institute, a former schoolhouse in a one-horse town, for a sleep experiment: There's divorcee Wanda (Victoria Grace Borrello), who just wants to get away from it all, there's spiritual Margo (Jax Kellington), there's born sceptic Porter (Jon Meggison), and there's good-natured and slightly alcoholic Hilbilly Theo (Tim Coyle). Now what the good doctor wants is to create sleep paralysis with the help of hypnosis to this way also do some investigation on the Sleep Demon (Chynna Rae Shurts), that seems to have its place in pretty much every folklore. Now during the first experiment, all four participants experience the exact same nightmare, and that night they all dream of the Sleep Demon. But what's worse, the Sleep Demon snatches one of them, Theo. Pretorious insists Theo has just left on his own accord, but quite honestly not even he believes that. What's worse is that the next night, the Sleep Demon takes none of the participants but the doctor himself, leaving the remaining three with only his journal to figure out how to get rid of the Demon before she snatches them as well ...

Now the film's title seems to have been chosen a bit unluckily as it bears no similarities whatsoever to The Conjuring series, instead is a pretty tight supernatural thriller in its own right. And while the premise sure enough is rather on the far-fetched side, a well-structured script that goes for under- rather than over-statement, and a solid direction keep things grounded while a relatable to even likeable ensemble cast bring the thing to life rather nicely, to make this cool genre entertainment.
