After being thrown out of his New York apartment by her boyfriend Tim
(Dan Stevens) for her alcohol-fuelled shenanigans, Gloria (Anne Hathaway)
moves back to her (empty) parents' house in small town, USA, and soon
hooks up with her childhood friend Oscar (Jason Sudeikis) and starts to
work at his bar - which of course only leads to more alcohol-induced
shenanigans. Then she learns that a giant monster is destroying downtown
Seoul, coming out of nowhere and going back to nowhere at fixed times ...
and eventually she finds out that the monster is actually an embodiment of
her, something she remote controls everytime she passes a certain
playground (which she does every morning at the same time). She confides
into Oscar and his friends (Austin Stowell, Tim Blake Nelson), who are
hard enough to convince, but she eventually finds a way to apologize for
all the harm she has (unintentionally) done without having to tell more
people about the phenomenon and be taken for a nutcase. But then Oscar
finds out if he passes the playground, he invokes a giant robot in Seoul
which he remote controls - which shouldn't be a problem, it's not that
hard staying away from one playground at a certain time each morning. But
then Gloria, who he always had the hots for, sleeps with one of his
friends (Austin Stowell) and later she talks about getting back with Tim
again - and now he uses his robot alter ego to force her to stay with him,
threatening to level Seoul otherwise. And that of course causes a big
dilemma for Gloria ...
