Taking a stroll on the beach, a man (Ryan Capizzi) finds an over a
hundred years old coin and takes it home. That night, he has a (rather
abstract) nightmare about the sinking of a ship, called The City of
Dunwich. The next day, the coin has turned into a boat ticket for The
City of Dunwich - which causes our hero to return to the beach to
investigate, not knowing that by him taking the coin he has summoned
something evil ... A rather wonderful hommage to vintage horror
cinema - the film explicitely thanks filmmakers Joe D'Amato [Joe
D'Amato bio - click here] and Lucio Fulci [Lucio
Fulci bio - click here] in the end credits - director Chris
Milewski really gets it right in both style and story, inasmuch as he
concentrates on the visuals (including a fitting over-reliance on quick
zooms), the soundscapes and the score, while leaving the narrative a bit
on the skeletal side. And a certain predilection for the macabre, very
atmospheric camerawork, and jump scares wherever needed make this a very
cool horror trip indeed.
