David (Renny Jachowicz) leads a reasonably happy life with his wife
Lynne (Stephanie Moran) until he takes a short nap on the couch, and when
he wakes up, not only is Lynne gone, but he finds himself all alone in the
city. Eventually, he comes across a highly disfigures man who can hardly
be called human anymore ... and then he starts to lose his own limbs and
his skin starts peeling off - to then wake up on the couch again, with
Lynnd doing a spot of gardening. A dream? Well, most certainly ... but
which one was the dream, which reality? A very interesting take
on the "last man on earth"-theme as Candy Skin doesn't
just employ genre formulas again but plays with them, turns them on their
heads, and ultimately questions its story's reality (and thus the viewer's
perception) - but while this might sound a bit brain-heavy it's really
packed into a very cool thriller that makes perfect use of sound and
visions to get the most out of its mostly dialogue-less goings-on. Plus
the cast's really up to their jobs. Totally worth a look!
