Years ago, Sonny (Sam Trammell) was happily married to Jennifer (Missy
Yager) - but that went downhill when he failed to show her his love,
picked fights rather than listen to her, made her believe he cheated on
her (and it never becomes quite clear whether that's true or not), and
ultimately turned violent on her. Now Sonny, kicked out by his wife, is
a sorry wreck, living in a dirt-cheap motel as that's the best he can
afford, jobless and living on petty crime, addicted to drugs and alcohol
... but he has learned his lesson (or thinks he has), and now he wants
Jennifer back - but her family won't even let him talk to her. Sonny's
downfall though really gains momentum when he orders a hooker, then tries
to send her away again without sex and pay ... upon which her pimp bursts
into his room and steals a necklace he once gave to his wife and which is
the last thing that he has of hers. Sonny, though normally low energy,
goes out of his way to retrieve the necklace ... upon which he crosses
paths with Franki (Vanessa Ferlito), an attractive clubowner who knows
much more about Sonny's past as a security specialist than can be pure
coincidence, and who plans to make good use of his expertise ... Told
in two different, sometimes narratively related timelines (one about
Sonny's marriage slowly going to hell, the other about Sonny's pathetic
life after and his futile attempts to make things work again), All
Mistakes Buried is a very interesting little movie that starts out as
a straight drama but adds more and more thriller elements along the way,
and eventually, everything falls together in a very unexpected but totally
exciting manner. Now add to that a direction that plays it low key and
mercifully stays away from too much spectacle to distract from the
narrative. And add to that a competent cast, and you've got yourself a
pretty good movie!
