Morticia (Carolyn Jones) and Gomez Addams (John Astin) send their
children Wednesday (Lisa Loring) and Pugsley (Ken Weatherwax) off to the
birthday party of little Harold (Kim Tyler), son of oil tycoon Pomeroy
(Frank Nelson) - but the kids are sent home early because of an
altercation, as the Pomeroys claimed their family's better than the
Addams. Furthermore, Pomeroy insists on the Addams children apologizing
for hitting Harold - an apology that only leads to more chaos, so much so
that Pomeroy and son leave in a hurry. However, Pomeroy's claim about the
superiority of his family leaves Gomez and Morticia wondering about their
own family tree enough to employ a genealogist (Jonathan Hole) to dig up
dirt on all their black sheeps ... and then Pomeroy finds out there might
be oil on a strip of land the Addams own, and suddenly he does his best to
butter the Addams up, so much so that he lets Harold play with Wednesday
and Pugsley - even if many of their games involve wild and lethal animals.
And ultimately Gomez agrees to the land deal, selling it for a
ridiculously high price - and of course perfectly aware of the fact that
there's no oil on the land whatsoever ... Basically a
fun episode, Carolyn Jones and John Astin are at their best, Frank Nelson
makes for a good foe, the plot goes a bit deeper than just the Addams
creeping others out with their eccentric behaviour and actually really
makes them the morally superior family, and quite a few of the jokes are
really funny, making this a very enjoyable ride.
