Your new series Barbee
Rehab - in a few words, what is it about, and what can you tell us
about your character?
From the first moment I read the lines, I knew it was going to be slapstick and
a project to wrap my mind around.
Shooting
lines with Tom Sizemore was one of my life’s goals. He was
amazing to work with, dead on with his deliveries. So I found it
very easy to banter with him.
What did you draw upon to bring
your character to life, and how much Janice Dickinson can we actually find
in Dr. Janice?
Well,
I have known a lot of doctors and, as you know, spent a few weeks in
Celebrity Rehab. I had quite a few role models.
Tom
allowed my character to come through with flying colors because he was so
quick-witted, as was the script.
I drew upon Sharon Stone in Fatal Attraction. She was very austere and
cold. I didn’t go in there to be warm and fuzzy. I went in
to be hardcore Janice.
How did you get involved with the project
in the first place? I
got a phone call from a mutual friend of director Derek S. Orr [Derek
S. Orr interview - click here], Timon, who said I would be
perfect to play the doctor. I guess she nailed it.
Your personal take on Barbie dolls? I
didn’t have Barbie dolls as a child actually. That would
have been a luxury for my family. I was really into sports like
surfing. I think Barbie dolls are fun, happy, joy of
life, and that gives a lot of creative choices for children’s
imagination. What
can you tell us about Barbee
Rehab's director Derek S. Orr, and what was your collaboration
like? Derek
committed himself to the project and he didn’t come up for air once.
He was on top of everything: The script, actors, direction, set. He
got the job done, incredible. Do talk about the shoot as such, and the on-set
atmosphere! It
was just another day on the set as far as I was concerned. It was
upbeat and fun-loving. That’s why we got the scenes done.
Derek gave us a lot of room to stretch as actors. Any future projects you'd like to share? I’m
looking forward to season 2.

Your
first claim to fame was of course as a supermodel - so do talk about your
modelling career for a bit? My
career was jam packed morning, noon and night. Always on the go, meeting
new people every shoot. It was high fever pitched. I loved the
action and the wonderful people in the industry. What made you go into acting
eventually, and did you receive any formal training on the subject?
I had some classes that helped me with script reading, patience and memory.
So I had no trouble auditioning for the part.
You've also done more than your fair
share of reality TV - so what can you tell us about that aspect of your
career, and how does appearing on reality TV compare to acting? It’s
a different realm. TV is more staged and stick-to-the-script attitude.
Reality TV is free flow so you can release your real self and create what you
want. How
would you describe yourself as an actress?
I get the job done! There’s no bullshit attitude and I work well
with others and I will stay late, gotta finish.
Actresses
(and indeed actors) who inspire you? Sharon
Stone, Rene Russo, Kate Capshaw, Cate Blanchett, Catherine Zeta-Jones. Your
favourite movies?
