For three years now, Hannah (Deborah Twiss) and Liam (Nick Hardin) have
been in a relationship - secretly though, as Liam's wife (Lora Davisson
Sumner) mustn't know about it as she's the provider of the family. But now
Liam has had enough, and to make the break-up as amicable as possible, he
suggests an "uncoupling ceremony", to which he also invites a
protegé of his, writer Freddie (David Edwin). The ceremony though doesn't
go as smoothly as possible, as Liam's narcissism comes into full swing
while it's also revealed that he had seduced Hannah in her own parents'
house when she was merely 17 (and he 13 years her senior) and has likewise
seduced Freddie when he was his young assistant back at university - and
both these relationships didn't end well. And it seems like this time,
Liam again manages to get his way when he gets both Hannah and Freddie
into his bed for one last threesome. But while from the looks of it it
seems like Liam has won again, there are things about Hannah and Freddie
that he couldn't have known or anticipated - starting with the fact that
they have known one another for years and came to his "uncoupling
ceremony" with their very own agenda ... Sapiosexual
is quite a fascinating psychological thriller, pretty much based on a
battle of wits with erotic undercurrents, and an outcome that one simply
could not have guessed at until all's said and done - and yet the ending
fits into the logic of the screenplay very beautifully. And add to that a
subtle yet atmospheric directorial effort, sharp dialogue and well
fleshed-out characters played by a strong trio of leads, and you've got
yourself an enjoyably tense piece of genre cinema.
