Natalie's (Freda Hu) boyfriend (Ken Katagiri) dumps her pretty much out
of the blue, and before he can explain why he's attacked and killed by
zombies - who then attack Natalie as well, but she's saved by Cathy
(Haruka Sometani), who has just happened to stop by fully armed for a
zombie attack. Together they fight through rows of more zombies and are
soon joined by Cathy's colleague Crow (Johnny Cash) and the somewhat weird
Piranha (Ten-Headed Skeleton) before making it to Barb (Devon Ashby) and
Hoss's (Matthew Lin) apartment, which is a reasonably safe haven. Just,
the zombie situation isn't something you can just sit out, so eventually
they decide to raid the next library for some books on survival - but the
way to the library isn't exactly a walk through the park, and the fact
that our heroes can agree on hardly anything doesn't exactly help either
... Now ok, above synopsis might sound like every other
zombie movie (which of course isn't necessarily a bad thing), but thing
is, Onslaught of the Dead doesn't feel like it, thanks to its
intentionally unnerving avant garde mucisal score, jts weird camerawork
that includes pictures standing on their head and its pretty unique colour
scale. And add to all of this dialogue that very often ironically veers
off into utter irrelevance (like characters discussing horror trivia), and
you end up with something very unusual - and (always assuming that zomies
are your thing) also somethng oddly entertaining.
