Janet (Francesca Eastwood) leads an at least superficially
perfect life, she's married to wealthy Evan (Nestor Carbonell), lives in a
fancy house in a upscale and very private neighbourhood, and has plenty of
time on her hands to enjoy her life, too - that is until handymen Leo
(Milo Gibson) ad Sam (Oliver Cooper) show up to fix her bathroom,
something she doesn't know anything about but they claim her husband has
hired them, and have even a contract too prove it. Reluctantly, Janet lets
them in, and Sam's easy enough to handle, he's a simpleton with a health
food fetish. Leo on the other hand is a bit too intrusive for Janet's
taste, asking too many questions and at times almost flirting with her,
despite her obvious lack of interest. Thing is, the handimen have an
agenda of their own - and yet Janet can't really kick them out, as there's
more to the story than meets the eye. Why else would she hang out with
divorce lawyer Tasha all the time? And why can't Evan be reached during
all of this? Above synopsis might make Clawfoot
sound like a run-of-the-mill thriller - but it actually is not. Sure, all
the genre tropes are in all of the right places, but it's also filled with
sharp dialogue, bits of satire, sitcom situations, and towards the end
decidedly dark comedy. And thanks to a strong script and a directorial
effort equally versed in comedy and thriller, the blend actually works as
well, while a first-rate cast clearly in on the joke but playing it
straight also help making this a pretty cool piece of genre cinema. Clawfoot
will be available on digital download 23rd September 2024. |
