Between 1989 and 1993, Belgium experienced a sourge in UFO sightings.
During that time, journalist Marc (Dominique Rongvaux) has disappeared
from the face of the earth. Now, 30 years later, journalist Karen (Karen
De Paduwa) and graphic designer Elzo (Karim Barras) decide to go looking
for Marc, whom they're both somehow related to - which results in a road
trip in a pink Chevrolet through the country, through all sorts of
different communities, and ultimately a trip to another dimension ... ...
and I'm totally aware that above synopsis doesn't do The Belgian Wave
any justice, as this is a triplike experience rather than a strictly
narrative film, something that lives at least as much from its rich
colouor scheme, its absurdities, its utter weirdness as it does from its
basic plot. What makes this movie though is that far out and trippy as it
might be, it's still engaging enough to suck its audience in, has a
relatable hook to it - which makes it pretty awesome genre entertainment
of the unusual side.
