Somewhere in Europe, World War II: Sarge (Gavin Marck) leads his platoon
of men behind enemy lines for a classified mission - but they got into an
enemy ambush and most of them don't make it out alive. Doc (Jason Benson),
the medic of the group, is cut off the rest of the platoon and falls into
enemy hands, more precisely that of a German captain (Ryan James) and a
fellow medic (Johannes Whaley). And while the German medic is actually a
friendly guy as pissed off by the war as Doc himself, the captain is more
interested in hunting down Bigfoot that taking prisoners, because yes,
there's a family of Bigfoots in the area - it's never explained how they
got there. Doc finds an injured Bigfoot and, having been a veterinarian in
his civilian life, tries to nurse him back to health, but to no effect,
the dies in his hands. Ultimately, Doc reunites with Sarge again, only to
find out he has been bitten by the Bigfoot bug and has gone off a cliff.
And now, caught between enemy lines, Doc has to realize that Bigfoot is
the least of his worries ,,,
Now ok, the title of this movie might tease high camp or at least
grindhouse vibes - and bearing that in mind, World War Bigfoot
is actually a pretty subtle film. Sure, by definition it's a creature
feature, but it's as much about monsters as it's about the futility of war
by intentionally placing itself in the grey area between goog and evil
where none of the characters are immune to be offed by a bullet at random
moments, where things get dirty long before the creatures turn up even.
And that's really what makes the film stand out and makes it such a
compelling watch.
