A group of actors (Grace Allison, James Parent, Freddie Maas, Caterina
Dorsey, Danny Gulics, Kristen Ciasullo, Genesis Diaz-Hall, Courtney Lordi,
Paulina Godlewska, Paulina Polocka, Christina Mignella, Julie Tzivas) have
come to a big office building in the middle of nowhere to audition for a
horror movie. Thing is, the director (Ernie Daw) is falling way behind in
the process, and the only one who seems to be present of the crew other
than him is his creepy butler Angus (Ron Lordi). So it's no wonder that
our actors by the by start to wonder off in the building, just to explore.
only to find the building totally empty and find themselves locked in.
Thing is, eventually they find out there not quite alone, there are three
masked killers in the house with them, and they're intent on picking them
out one by one (because our heroes always split up of course) and kill
them mercilessly ...
Now of course, when reading this you might think this film doesn't exactly
rate high on the originality scale - and to a point you'd be absolutely
right ... but that's exactly the point of the movie, so much so that the
characters complain about predictable murders, jump scares and the like,
really putting the parodistic elements of its plot to the forefront.
That's not to say though that We Can't Leave is just a Scary Movie
styke spoof, it actually takes the genre seriously, features plenty of
suspense and gruesome murders, and doesn't always go for the cheap joke,
but it also plays with genre limitations - in a way that will strike a
chord with any self-respecting genre fan.
