A Screambox original: Documentary filmmaker Tessa (Katrin Nugent)
is sure that on the tapes she has found
last episode she has
been ear-witness to a murder - but the town she's moved to, Lowery, being
cut off the internet or mobile phone service, she has no way to verify
this instantly, so she the next day makes a trip to the library to dig
into old newspapers on micro film - and oddly enough finds them redacted.
On top of that, the librarian (Tina Ann Brook) tells her she can't come
back to re-check the files some more because of renovations - an excuse
that seems to be completel.y pulled out of the hat. And is just when Tessa
has come up with one name that could be at the center of it all, Freddy
Crane. With the library no longer available, Tessa does the next best
thing and goes to the local bar in hopes to pick up some gossip - and she
runs into deaf ears mostly, except for one man (Alexander Platt) who's
willing to talk in exchange for booze - his name: Freddy Crane ...
Now there seems to be not too much happening in this episode - after
all, neither research in a library nor a visit to a bar are very exciting
taken by themselves -, but at the same time, everything's reeally
well-handled to pick up the tension from
episode one andjust
dial it up, ultimately ending in a cliffhanger that seems to end the first
act of the series rather beautifully, All of this is achieved thanks to
clever writing, but also thanks to a subtle yet atmospheric directorial
effort as well as relatable performances, making this one rather cool
genre entertainment.
