She showed so much potential as a child (Violet Rea), but as a grown-up
(and played by Jennifer Seward), she has amounted to very little, she
works in a jdead end job she doesn't even enjoy, she has a deadbeat
husband (Dan Daly) who doesn't respect her, and a mother (Deborah Madick)
who can't stop nagging. The only escape she has is dressing up as a clown
and entertaining young and old at the park down the road. Unfortunately,
that's not making her any serious money - but at least it gives her power
to life through another day, and eventually enough power to change her
life around ... even if that means killing both her husband and her
mother. And as gruesome as they were, these two murders really
liberate Jen, to the point where she finally has an affair with the nice
and hot co-worker (Tim Shelburne) who has fancied her for a while now.
Only the whole killing thing has gottten to her head a bit and she
realizes she*s unwilling to stop. And of course, it's not long before two
cops (Nicole Hall, Matt Leisy) get on her trail - but she figures she
still has one final massacre in her before zhe law can catch up ...
Super Happy Fun Clown is nothing if not the titular fun,
at least for horror fans, as it features its fair share of murders, many
of them on the inventive side of things, plenty of macabre details, as
well as nods to vintage horror cinema - and it's all wrapped into a story
depicting an almost grotesque descent into insanity. That said, the film
isn't without a heart, a heart that allows us to at least sympathize with
- and of course, it helps that Jennifer Seward gives a very solid lead
performance and is supported by a solid ensemble. So for horror audiences
this a pretty worthwhile watch.
