After a lead to the evil organisation Seiroukai and their mysterious
leader Kage no Soto (Nagakura Genta) was revealed to Saki (Yoko Minamino)
in the last
episode, she follows up on it and learns about super-secret pop
sensation Xeku, whose music is only available on the black market and his
concerts are never announced and the fans have to find out about them
themselves. Yuko gets Saki into one of Xeku's concerts, and before the band
starts to play, Yuko wants to go backstage and hand Xeku a present - but
overhears a conversation between him and his manager Kikuchi, and hears
the manager call him Soto. When Kikuchi finds out Yuko has listened in on
them, he chases her through the city and kills her, so that the secret can
die with her ... but Saki goes searching for her friend and finds her just
in time for Yuko to pass on the info on Xeku's real identity, that he's in
fact Kage no Soto. Saki is attacked by Kikuchi and one of his goons, but
easily immobilizes them, then tries to get info out of Kikuchi - with
little success. So she returns to the venue, where the concert's already
over, is attacked by some goons of Soto's, who don't pose much of a
challenge. But when she arrives at Xeku/Soto's green room, he's already
gone. She can only helplessly see him drive away, but hears the melody his
pendant plays - the exact melody her pendant holding a photo of her dead
mother plays ...
Despite some nice yoyo-supported martial arts, this is not one
of the more interesting episodes of Sukeban Deka, mainly
because the plot is a little too far-fetched, even within the confines of
the series. Basically it just rings odd that a super-secret leader of a
super-secret evil organisation should have a secret identity as pop star.
It's of course an attempt to resonate with youth culture, which is so
blunt it's pretty much endearing - so admittedly it's some fun because of
exactly this central discrepancy - just not good in the traditional sense
of the word.
