Salem (Lara Hunter) is 15 and thus just about too young to be left alone
when her mother (Ashley Alva) goes out to work at night, so mum brings her
along in the car. Unfortunately, mum's into breaking and entering with her
partner (Timothy V. Murphy), and Salem has to stay in the car while the
two go about their crimes. And even though waiting in a car sounds boring,
it seems like they're always on the run, just a police siren away from
getting caught. And eventually Salem has enough of it all ...
Now Stay in the Car is a prime example of how to make
very much about very little - after all, the film is centered entirely in
and around a car, none of the crimes suggested are actually shown, and the
dialogue is very reduced, with only the titular line "stay in the car"
actually being important to the plot. But the way the film is written,
shot and acted actually makes this one tight and compelling drama that's a
very worthwhile watch.
