Getting ready for bed, 20 year old Abigail
(August Porter) receives a text from an unknown number saying "R.I.P" next
to her name - which she at first believes to be a tasteless pranmk by one
of her immature friends - and yet she closes all doors and windows of hr
place, not knowing that the killer (Owen Llewelyn) is already inside the
house, and he brutally stabs her, then pulls one of her teeth while
leaving behind a chattering teeth toy as his soon-to-be trademark. The
police led by D.C.I. Mullen (Matt Weyland) at first have no clue as to the
identirty of the killer, but their first suspect is her boyfriend Jaden
(Bruno Cryan), who has a bit of a histroy of violent behavour. Thing is,
there's zero evidence to suggest his involvement. Of course, it doesn't
help when two more (Callum Chapman, Mia Bowd) are killed following the
very same m.o, Meanwhile though, Mullen has determined the identity of the
killer through the rather unique chattering teeth toy he leaves at every
crime theme, a young teethless man who has become obsessed with teeth and
who has only recently escaped from asylum. But knowing the identity of the
killer doesn't mean being able to capture him as the man keeps well
hidden. But one thing's for sure, things will culminate at the party of
Jaden's best friend's (Maximus Polling) girlfriend (Jasmine Kheen) ...
Part slasher movie part police procedural, The R.I.P Man
does really take the best of both words, the slasher clichés are sure
given more meat in the bone thanks to quite a bit of cop drama while the
usually rather dry police procedural structure is lightened up by a few
rather inventive murders, plenty of atmospheric suspense scenes and some
great and impressive locations. Now add to this a solid cast playing
it straight and a welcome lack of post-modern irony, and you've got a very
cool piece of genre cinema on your hands.
The R.I.P Man will be released on streaming in the UK on
January 5th, in the USA on January 12th 2026.
