Not so much a feature film but a collection of live-performances of some
of the finest black musicians of their day at the famous Harlem Apollo
Theatre, hosted by Willie Bryant and
with comedy by Freddy and Flo and Nipsey Russell and Mantan Moreland, the
latter two doing one of Mantan's famous (and quite hilarious) infinite
talk routines ("Have you got the time ?" - "Yes, it's
..." - "Must be later than that !"). Oh, and by the way,
dancer Bill Bailey does the moonwalk decades before Michael Jackson
was created with inventing it ...
Music lovers will simply have to watch this film because it features a
string of Jazz- and Rhythm and Blues-performances that are nothing short
of great and show the immense influence black music has on pop music even
nowadays, half a century later.
A must for everyone who likes popular music.
