Doctor Jonas (Barry Atwater) is a geologist who thinks he knows
everything about stones. Wht he doesn't know though is that two stones in
his collection are actually invaders from outer space (!), planning to
take over humans to conquer the world. There is only one man who can hear
them speak (for some reason they talk in plain English) though, Doc Jonas'
friend Paul (Robert Culp), who has a metal plate in his head. Pity for the
invaders, because now Paul knows all their plans and they cannot take him
over because of the metal plate ... but who would believe Paul's wild
story, in respect that it is not only absolutely silly but that Paul also
has a history in paranoia ?
Soon, Paul grows so scared of the stones that he persuades his wife
Laurie (Salome Jens) to finally go on a honeymoon with him to Mexico.
Meanwhile, back in his lab, Doc Jonas is possessed by one of the stones,
and soon he finds out where Paul and Laurie are staying - and one day
while Paul is out, Doc Jonas brings the second stone to possess Laurie.
Later, when Paul comes home and finds Laurie possessed, he runs away
and hides in a cheap motel. But the caretaker (Ken Renard) of the place
where Paul and Laurie were staying finds him and urges him to come back,
claiming she is terminally ill and only Paul (who is a physician) can save
her.
Back at the place though, Paul is first attacked by Doc Jonas, and he
has to shoot him dead. Eventually the place catches fire and Laurie
attacks Paul as well. He shoots her too, sees the alien stone seperating
from her body, and carries her out of the flames.
Whill she survive ?
We will never know.
The story of this episode of Outer Limits is incredibly
silly - after all this is about alien invaders that are stones, but not
like rocks, but at best of the size of a fist -, still this might even be
one of the better episodes of the series - basically because the Cold War
propaganda is rather subdued, and simply because it features a very silly
(and trashy) story ... and just because the title - Corpus Earthling
- is so very stupid.
It's not good, but it's at least worth a chuckle or
two.
