Andy's (Ryan Barton-Grimley) more than a little stressed out of late,
his 6 months old daughter Abby keeps him awake at night, his promotion at
the bank he works at means above all one thing, more work, and his habit
to defraud his own bank out of chunks of money using a manipulated ATM
card augments above all his feelings of guilt. So it's no wonder he's
having nightmares at night, most of which feature man-sized babies chasing
him through the neighbourhood. And then, one night when his wife (Simone
Schneider) goes out and leaves the baby in his care, little Abby's
kidnapped right out of her bed, and the only way to communicate with her
kidnapper is through the baby monitor. And that kidnapper (voiced by Ari
Schneider) forces Andy to collect in all a quarter of a million Dollar
using his manimupated ATM card - and since he can only withdraw small
amounts at once and from the same machine, this sends Andy on a wild goose
chase through town. But who knows whether the kidnapper's playing fair
and/or the bank's own fraid department isn't on to him ... A
pretty cool thriller that takes a very primal fear - losing one's child -
and turns it into highly original concept that manages to surprise
throughout with its twists and turns, some of them even darkly ironic, and
turns more and more towards the nightmarish the longer the story goes. And
add to that a dynamic direction that's heavy on atmosphere and time and
again veers towards pure horror, and an able small ensemble cast playing
colourful characters, and you just know you're in for a genre treat.
