Lucifer's (Jack Mulcahy) days are numbered ... oh, not literally, it's
just that after umpteen centuries, he has to pass the rule of hell over to
a new ruler - Burnett (Keith Collins). And while Lucifer is old school,
let's-keep-things-as-they've-always-been, Burnett wants change - and the
first thing he puts into motion is to move Hell out of Hell and to New
Jersey, because Burnett is not too crazy about the heat. And then, with
his yes-man, the "Devil's advocate" Richard (Edvin Ortega) and
Richard's ex-(maybe not-)stripper girlfriend Tori (Penelope Lagos), he
advises some plans to make hell a hipper place and collecting souls by
promising them what they want ... well, sex mostly. Burnett has big
expansion plans actually, and eventually wants to take on the Lord (Chris
Mulkey) himself. Lucifer isn't happy about this at all, sees his work
over the centuries ruined, the careful balance of power between Heaven and
Hell he has created threatened ... so he and his closest allies, Judas
Isciarot (Stephen Fontana) and the biblical Eve (Rosie Gunther) try
everything to sabotage Burnett's efforts - but Lucifer it seems has been
resting on his laurels too long to know what doing real evil even means
... until he learns about loopholes in the American legal system ... The
Jersey Devil is a really likeable little comedy that might not be as
high on excitement and special effects as you might expect a film about
good vs evil - or rather evil vs evil - to be, but it more than makes up
to it with some really poignant dialogue, great characters and a fittingly
competent ensemble cast, many a fun situation, and a very entertaining and
nicely flowing narrative. Totally enjoyable!
