Abbie Rose (Kasia Szarek) is a social media personality who's
successful enough with her makeup tutorials and the like she has been
branded an "influencer" - and as such, she can ask for small
fortunes from all the companies she supports - and especially makeup
producer Nutrocon is willing to pay hundreds of thousands of Dollars for
her endorsement. And then one night, four crooks (Janeva Zentz, Shantell
Yasmine Abeydeera, Victoria D. Wells, Ian Richard Jones) break into her
home, but not to rob her but to force her to make videos ultimately
discrediting Nutrocon - and their cause seems just even, as the company,
despite a squeaky clean image, is mired in hushed up scandals, from sexual
harrassment to ecological crimes. Thing is, the quarted of home invaders
aren't exactly the smartest, and aren't a tightly enough knit group to
handle all eventualities, so things get a bit out of hand when Abbie's
wannabe lover Justin (Mark Valeriano) shows up, who might be totally inept
when it comes to saving Abbie, but he's also totally obnboxious.
Eventually, things get so out of hand that the quartet's mysterious boss
shows up to set things straight, and it's none other than Abbie's timid
intern Trendygirl99 (Thea Cantos) - but things seem to have gone too wrong
already for even her to save the day ... As far as thrillers
about home invasions/hostage situations to, this movie's definitely more
on the funny side of things, cleverly pairing situation comedy with
satire, carried by an ensemble cast clearly in on the joke but keeping
things grounded all the same. And the direction finds just the right
balance between thriller and comedy to keep things tense but still never
too far from a chuckle or two, making this a very entertaining piece of
cinema.
