Syndicate boss Namgib (George Pembroke) hires Flattop (John Cliff) to
kidnap and murder top cop Dick Tracy (Ralph Byrd). But once Flattop and
his accomplice Mote (Pedro Regas) gotten hold of Tracy (all too easily,
actually), Flattop gets greedy, and instead of the promised $10,000 he now
demands $50,000, and shouldn't Namgib pay up, he will not only let Tracy
go but also give him the lowdown on the syndicate to bust Namgib for good.
Eventually they agree on killing Tracy upon the handover of the money, but
then and there, Tracy succeeds in playing Namgib and Flattop against each
other, and in the end they kill each other, just before Tracy's trusted
sidekick Sam Catchem (Joe Devlin), who has spent the entire episode trying
to track down his boss, arrives at the scene While being no
match to Ralph Byrd's Dick Tracy serials and movies in terms
of budget and spectacle, this is still a rather lively episode of his
later TV-series, fuelled largely by a good cast that seems to come right
of a comicbook and of course a fine performance by Byrd, who over the
years has grown more and more into his signature role.
