After his death, millionaire Rudy Barnett (Ernest Kearney) has his lawyer (John McCafferty) gather all those who might be beneficiaries at a snowed in cabin in the middle of nowhere - who are interestingly all people who wronged him one way or another: His stepmother (Sarah Carson), his first wife (Rachael Olsem) who broke his heart, his second wife (Debra Lamb) who only married him for his money, the priest (G. Larry Butler) who abused him when he was a kid, the doctor (Douglas Macpherson) and nurse (Dani J. Scott) who performed an abortion on his wife, and the filmmaker (Damon Evans) who has stolen his script idea. Via video messages, Barnett gives them simple tasks to fulfill to prove themselves worthy of his vast fortune - and casually he tells them they are all going to die - which our hopeful heirs-to-be at first believe to be a sick joke, until they start dropping like flies, and in the exact order Barnett predicts in his posthumous videos, too ...

Now in terms of story, The Deceased Won't Desist isn't exactly treading new ground, over the decades, old dark house mysteries, even those including the reading of a will and revenge from beyond the grave, have been a dime a dozen. And writer-director Mark Pirro is quite obviously aware of that, as he playfully cranks genre tropes up to eleven. And exactly this is what makes this film so much fun, because of the familiarity of the premise, the jokes and punchlines just really land. And a colourful set of characters, embodied by a strong ensemble cast, only help make this one an utterly enjoyable genre ride.
