All Ray (Omar Tucci) and Brooke (Marlene Malcolm) really wanted was to
get away from it all for a romantic weekend, and to avoid heavy traffic,
they have chosen to get wherever-it-is via side roads. And on one such
side road they're stopped by the police. Now they haven't done anything
wrong, so that ought to just be a quick traffic control to then send it on
their way ... only they're suddenly cuffed and shipped off to an island,
and seeing the situation has gotten out of hands, Ray tries to bribe their
way out - to no avail. As it turns out, the Sheriff and his buddies (Terry
McDonald, Rick Amsbury, Greg Johnston) actually like to have a little
manhunt on their private island 20 miles off the main coast every now and
again, and that this time Ray and Brooke serve as their game is really
mere coincidence. Now being faced with unsurmountable odds, Ray and Brooke
really exceed themselves, so much so that they manage to disarm one of the
hunters, but eventually Ray is gunned down during their fight for
survival, and will Brooke make it on her own until the arrival of the
supply boat, the only means of getting off the island?
As so many manhunt movies, this one of course harks back to
the classic The Most Dangerous
Game, and for this to be very honest doesn't score very high in
the surprise department. But that said, there's plenty of tension in this
film, and it keeps a good balance between action and suspense, and never
falls pray to gratiutous violence. And the action sure is well handled
while the directorial effort makes the most out of its outdoor settings.
And with a competent cast giving their all, this turns out to be a pretty
exciting piece of genre cinema.
