Painter Dave (Lon Chaney jr) is happily engaged to Heather (Jean
PArker), and her father, rich businessman 'Dad' Hayden (Edward Fielding)
is all for their relationship, since he sees in Dave the son he never had.
Only Dave's favourite model Tanya (Acquanetta) is unhappy about the
situation, because she is madly in love with him.
One day, after another painting session, Tanya accidently swaps Dave's
cleansing lotion with acid, which he keeps in the same drawer, which makes
Dave burn out his eyes and consequently go blind. His blindness also
causes Dave to get depressive and he soon breaks off his engagement with
Heather and urges her to marry Nick (George Meeker) who has long been in
love with her, but to no avail. The only one who stands by his side during
all of this is Tanya, who has a guilty conscienc on one hand, but on the
other figures that her chances to get together with him would greatly
improve due to his blindness ... but then 'Dad' Hayden offers Dave his
eyes after his death ... and wouldn't you know it, only days later, 'Dad'
is murdered, and when Dave is found leaning over the dead body - and by
Heather, too - he becomes the prime suspect fro inspector Drury (Thomas
Gomez) ... but he also gets 'Dad' Hayden's eyes due to the old man's last
will.
When Tanya finds out about that however, she steals the eyes, and it's
only thanks to Alan (Paul Kelly), Dave's best friend and Tanya's spurned
lover, that the eyes are returned to Dave just in time for the operation
... but seemingly to no avail, the new eyes have not improved Dave's
eyesight one bit, he's still blind - or is he ?
Nope, in fact he is just putting on an act to find out who has really
murdered 'Dad' Hayden, but his only clue at first is a screw, which he
shows to Tanya (whom he suspects among others), who seems to know
something about th escrew she just won't tell - and the next day, Tanya
turns up dead.
Ultimately, Dave confronts his best friend Alan with what he has found
out, and really, it turns out that the screw belongs to Alan's walking
stick, the blunt object with which 'Dad' Hayden was murdered ... but now
Alan wants to murder Dave too - but what he doesn't know is that Dave is
no longer blind and unexpectedly he puts a fight and overcomes Alan ...
plus, inspector Drury and his men have already been waiting in the next
room to arrest the killer - and in the end, of course, Dave gets Heather.
A very far-fetched murder mystery, with quite a number of plottwists
that quite simply fail to convince. And the fact that the film by and
large lacks tension and suspense makes this a rather tedious crime
thriller to watch. Not recommended.
