Daryl (Niko Foster) runs a Las Vegas motel that really hasn't much to offer to its clientele - other than that it's dirt cheap. And even though it always attracts enough guests tue to its low ratess, it's on the border of going oout of business ... and then Daryl and his staff - desk clerks Crystal (Nicky Whelan) and Ahn (Brian A. Metcalf), cleaning lady MNarina (Kelly Arjen) and handiman Oren (William Forsythe) kill a guest in pure self defense and find a shitload of drugs on him. So what to do, call the cops and potentially get into trouble, or make the body disappear in the desert next door and use the motel as a perfect front for a drug-running operation? They all choose the latter alternative, especially because without the motel none of them would have a place to go. Everything goes smooth for a while, too, until they receive a receive a visit from Andrei (Jeff Fahey), a gangster with anger issues who's also the original owner of the drugs. After doing some posturing though he lets Daryl and company off easy as he's impressed by their inconspicuous operation and puts them in his employ. One would think that that settles things, but you see, there's also Tony (Mark Pellegrino), a gangster with a knack for poisoning his opponents, who claims the drugs as his - even if for the sole reason he has stolen them from Andrei -, and suddenly Daryl and company find themselves in the middle of a gang war through no(t very much) fault of their own ...

Now one thing up front if you want to enjoy A Crime Story: It's a comedy. Sure, it's made up from gangster film mainstays, and it has its scenes of suspense and violence, its shoot-outs and brutal kills, and the story could work as a drama too and is played straight by the cast - and all that said, the film is just hilarious, thanks to a colourful cast of characters, situational comedy that's never overdone, and poignant dialogues. So if you like your gangster entertainment with some extra laughs on the side, you'll find yourself served brilliantly here.
