This starts out as a tribute movie for Blake Hartner (Drew G. Sicard),
a student who has one day just disappeared, and a farewell note suggests
he has committed suicide - and this left many shattered, as Blake was
well-liked on the campus and known for his bright nature. Nobody would
have suspected he could take his own life. Then a journal with his poetry
is found, another thing nobody has known about. Blake's poetry is printed,
and his apparent suicide gives his words meaning. Also, in Blake's honour,
suicide prevention groups are formed on the campus, suicide awareness is
raised, so even beyond death Blake seems to touch preople. But then one
day, a very unexpected occurence throws everything into question ... For
the most part, this plays out like a run-of-the-mill tribute movie - and
quite intentionally so -, where in a series of interviews the dearly
departed is pretty much made a saint, who has never done any wrong and who
touches hearts even after his death. And it's really his death that makes
his hitherto poetry so meaningful and poignant. It's really the plot twist
that ushers in the third act that makes the film ingenious though, as it
asks exactly the right questions. And writer/director Ryan Jamison is
clever enough to not give the answers but leaves things open to
interpretation - and this is what makes B for Blake so fascinating
a movie.
