Your new movie Bastard Son of a Thousand Fathers
- in a few
words, what is it about?
Bastard Son of a Thousand Fathers
is a crime action film about the drug world/cartel, life, greed,
power and the consequences of being involved in that life. How did the project get off the
ground in the first place, and what attracted you to it? We
created 4 Features Film Co., and it was the second feature film slated for
production. I was attracted to it because the character I portrayed, Cal,
is so different from who I am and forced me to push the envelope, if you
will. What
were the challenges of getting the movie in the can from a producer's
point of view? And how hands-on or hands-off are you as producer,
actually? Great question. We shot the film and it actually
sat for a while as we completed our award winning documentary, Lakay.
Bastard Son of a Thousand Fatherss is an intelligent, gritty film and was well executed. However, I
believed it needed an amazing sound design and score to carry it through
all the way. So, getting some of the producers on board about the cost for
post-production was pain in the butt, but we made it happen ;-) You also play a lead role in
Bastard Son of a Thousand Fathers- so what can you tell us about your
character, and what did you draw upon to bring Cal to life?
My
brother Tirf Alexius [Tirf
Alexius interview - click here] and I got to portray on-screen brothers, Rex
and Cal. Cal is completely different from who I am as a person because of
his life style and the choices he made. However, I believe as an actor you
have to play roles that are challenging in order to grow. As Cal, I
enjoyed the challenge as it allowed me explore my sensitive side and be
vulnerable. What
can you tell us about the rest of your cast, and to what extent have you
been involved in the casting process, even? We were truly
blessed because the entire cast brought their A game to the set. I along
with the other producers participated in the casting process because we
knew what the film needed, a great ensemble. What can you
tell us about your director Lanre Sarumi, and what was your collaboration
with him like? Lanre is great writer/director and this film
is testament to his abilities. He was very open our ideas and trusted our
inputs as producers and lead actors in the film. We shot the film in
record time and had blast. Do talk about the shoot as such, and the
on-set atmosphere! If you treat all the people on set with
respect, you shoot will go much smoothly. We had blast on set. We played
around a lot on set, but once it was time for a take, it was game on. The $64-question of course, where can
your movie be seen? Oh yes, the LA premiere will this
Sunday October 2nd at the Downtown Independent Theater, followed by NY on
October 7th. The film will be available On-Demand nationwide on Xfinity,
Dish, and all the major VOD platforms.
Anything you can tell us about
audience and critical reception of Bastard Son of a Thousand Fathers I’m
excited say that’s the easiest question thus far… fans and critics
loved it. Any
future projects you'd like to share? Yes, you should always
have something cooking up. We have comedy, action and a supernatural
action trilogy in development. What got you into
the filmworld in the first place, and did you receive any formal training
on the subject? I was cast as a sailor in HMS Pinafore many
years ago and fell in love with acting. I received my acting training at
Columbia College, Chicago campus. What can you tell us about your filmwork
prior to Bastard Son of a Thousand Fathers? I
was a producer with a supporting role in our first feature, Critical
Nexus, directed by Tirf Alexius [Tirf
Alexius interview - click here]. I co-wrote, and produced our award
winning documentary, Lakay. I’ve also had several leading roles in short
films, features films, and was featured in Divergent. Last but not least,
I’ve starred in three Telly award winning commercials. Do
talk about your production company 4
Feature Film Company and the philosophy behind it! 4
Features Film Co.,was created by five producers and actors who wanted to
make high quality non-studio films. The goal, yes a bit ambitious, was to
create four feature films per year, hence the name ;-) We completed two,
ha ha. Filmmakers,
actors, whoever else who inspire you?

That’s a tough one
because I’m big fan of films in general. I grew up watching
Stallone, Schwarzenegger as I’m a big action film guy. But as for
actors who inspired me, I’d have to say Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt,
and Morgan Freeman, to name a few. Your favourite
movies? A few of my favorite movies are The Shawshank
Redemption, Man on Fire, Training Day, Legends of The
Fall, Blade, etc. ... and of course, films you really deplore? Hmm,
can I get back to you on this one? Lol. I don’t know, Blair Witch? Your/your movie's/your
company's website, Facebook, whatever else?

else you're dying to mention and I have merely forgotten to ask? Yes,
I am very excited about the West Coast premiere and thanks for this
interview. Hope you love the film as well. Thanks
for the interview!
