Your upcoming movie Lake of Shadows: The Legend of Avocado Lake - in a few words, what's it going to be about?

Lake of Shadows will be a film based on an urban legend that will mix several subgenres, including found footage, documentary and traditional creature feature.

As far as I know, Lake of Shadows: The Legend of Avocado Lake is based on an actual urban legend - care to elaborate? And other sources of inspiration when writing Lake of Shadows: The Legend of Avocado Lake?

Yes, Lake of Shadows is definitely based on a real location with a death toll that's well over 150. The minute the local public got word that we were making a film about Avocado, people came out of the woodwork to tell their real stories. So a majority of my source material

comes from real accounts.

What can you tell us about your co-writer and executive producer Tino Zamora, and what's your collaboration like?

Tino is a great friend and is the one that came up with the story. As a child he used to frequent the lake and hear all sorts of tales, one in particular about a giant man eating catfish that would take swimmers under. That's the story he needed to tell and that's what we're doing.

A few words about the film's intended look and feel?

I am definitely testing the waters with my skills (pun intended) as I have never ventured into found footage territory. However, I do plan to stick with a few tricks that have worked for me in the past to retain the viewing audience's attention. Stay tuned.

Do talk about your key cast, and why exactly these people?

What can I say about the cast in this piece, wow! I am working with actors that I've wanted to work with and ones that I love to work with. I am very fortunate and they all fit the bill for the characters I've developed.

With Lake of Shadows: The Legend of Avocado Lake being a monster movie, you of course also have to talk about your creature for a bit, and how will it be achieved?

Of course I am going all practical with the FX creature, gory, you name it... I'm just not a CGI guy.

You are currently still running a fundraiser for Lake of Shadows: The Legend of Avocado Lake - so do talk about your campaign for a bit!

Yes, we have about a month left to raise the additional funds to complete principal as well as cover costs for FX and other on set necessities.

Despite still raising funds, you've already shot quite a few scenes of Lake of Shadows: The Legend of Avocado Lake already - so what can you tell us about the shoot(s) so far?

So far shooting has been wonderful. We shot a promo which will also be used in the film and we just wrapped an intense scene with cult 80's star Dawn Wildsmith [Dawn Wildsmith interview - click here]. We will definitely continue shooting what we can until the additional funds are in place.

The $64-question of course: When and where will Lake of Shadows: The Legend of Avocado Lake  be released onto the general public (however tentatively)?

That's up to my executive producer Tino Zamora. He may seek distribution and/or put it out on the festival circuit sometime in 2017... we'll see.

Sure, a project called plenty of rest... Just kidding. Well, I plan to take a year to develop a horror film with close friend and actor Robert Mukes titled The Deadly Kind and from there who knows? Maybe some studio will give this bum a job ;)
