Your upcoming movie Dr. Acid Face - in a few words, what's it going to be about?

Dr. Acid Face is about Russian scientist, Dr. Vladnov, who creates biological and chemical weapons for the Russian government. When he comes to the US and attempts to hand his work over the the Americans, the Russians attempt to stop him. In doing so Dr. Vladnov is exposed to his weapon agents and is transformed into Dr. Acid Face. Now horribly disfigured and raving mad, Dr. Vladnov goes on a killing spree requiring the US and Russian governments to capture Dr. Vladnov before he continues to kill.

Why a monster movie? And what were your inspirations for dreaming up Dr. Acid Face?

I've always loved monster movies. Whether they were the Hammer horror movies, Toho Godzilla movies, even Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, monster movies have always been fun for me to watch over and over again. My inspiration for Dr Acid Face was that I really wanted to do something in the dry spell I've had since my last movie Cryptid. A friend of mine, Ward Benoit, has a photo on his Facebook of some makeup he did on himself with half his face melted. I wanted to work with Ward again (he had a part in Cryptid as a druggie who gets his brain eaten), so I thought of something we could do together with him in a Lon Chaney Sr-esque kind of role.

What can you tell us about your movie's approach to horror (as in suspense vs sudden shocks, atmosphere vs all-out gore and the like)?

The scariest movies I've seen were Jaws and The Grudge. They relied on suspense as opposed to jump scares. I liked that. They truly scared me. Dr Acid Face will have more suspense versus sudden shocks. It will however have mucho gore. Not gross gore like you see in the Hostel and Saw movies, which turns me off, but more like over the top fun gore in Sam Raimi's original Evil Dead trilogy or Peter Jackson had in Dead Alive.

Ward Benoit in makeup

You of course also have to talk about your "monster" for a bit, and how will it be achieved?

Everything will be practical makeup effects. No CGI. Ward Benoit, who will play Dr. Vladnov/Dr Acid Face will be doing his own makeup which will primarily be gelatin appliances on his face and hand. As the movie progresses the biological agents Dr. Vladnov was exposed to consumes his body. The makeup will be a progression throughout the film of different stages of Dr. Vladnov’s transformation into a hideous beast of melted flesh. The beast at the climax of the movie, however, will need to be done by a special effects team. So if any of your readers know of or are interested in doing a life-size melted flesh beast suit for a low budget movie they can contact me through my website: www.ArchangelProductions.org.

Anything you can tell us about your cast yet, and why exactly these people?

I don't have a full cast yet but I am taking requests of those interested in acting in Dr Acid Face. Ward has been cast as Dr. Vladnov / Dr Acid Face because I like that he can do his own SFX makeup plus he has the body type of Tor Johnson [Tor Johnson bio - click here] which is what I wanted for that character. Depending on the budget, the cast should be selected by the end of February 2015.

As far as I know, Dr. Acid Face is still in its fundraising stages - so what can you tell us about your fundraising efforts?

As of now (late November) the fundraising is OK. I would like to get a few thousand for this picture in order to pay the majority of the cast and crew and give this the look of a larger budgeted movie than what my last pictures looked like. I'm using IndieGoGo as a crowdfunding site and will continue to take donations on the Dr Acid Face website after it ends on IndieGoGo. I constantly post updates of the movie all around Facebook, Twitter and my website. Any help with donations towards the budget is very much appreciated. The perks I have are the best I've seen, so get yours!

Once your funds are raised, what's the schedule, and even though it's probably waaaayyyyy too early to ask, any idea when the film might be released onto the general public yet?

I would like to start shooting in March and release it sometime in September or October 2015. It will stream on my website and then be released on DVD soon after.

Any future projects beyond Dr. Acid Face you'd like to share?

I'd like to shoot another monster movie with an ice creature I've been creating. I also have a project in mind with small evil clowns as well as a slasher-in-the-woods idea I think your gorehounds would like.
