Your upcoming movie The Last Beautiful Girl - in a few words,
what is it about?
It's about that first time you fall in love. How wonderful, exciting
and scary it is. And how your world falls apart the first time you might
lose it. Why a romantic dramedy, what drew you
to exactly this genre? Well, its more a tone thing. In
life there are times of great joy and silliness, especially when it comes
to real life. And we wanted to really capture that. As far as I know, The Last Beautiful Girl
was partly inspired by your own experiences - care to
talk about those for a bit? And other sources of inspiration when writing
the movie? Ya know, its about THAT girl. The one that was
the most important one in your youth. I dated this girl, prettier than I
probably deserved at the time. Smart. Funny. The most together
person I knew and I was... well... not. It was the first time I was in
REAL love and a relationship that put me in the direction that led me to
where I am today.
According to my information, your script has
been sent out to a few festivals already - care to elaborate? We're
very excited about that. A couple of awards won. Some nominations for
others, like at the Bare Bones Film Festival. Very exciting. Your
film being labeled a dramedy - so what can you tell us about the brand of
humour and the sort of drama that will carry the movie? It
runs the gamut. It's got some very American Pie type humor,
especially a scene where some salsa ends up... down there. But a lot of
heart. And a realness. What
can you tell us about the intended look and feel of your film? We've
got a new cinematographer, Emily Heifner, so we're excited about that. But
we want it to have a real Cameron Crowe type feel to the movie. Do
talk about your projected key cast and crew for a bit, and why exactly
these people?
Derek Babb, Morgan Floyd, Shelby Cullinan,
Shelby Surdam, Dino Maglaris |
They are WONDERFUL. A mix of new and old
Twitchy cats. Morgan Floyd is playing Jules, our lead. She's just
fantastic. Derek Babb is back, this time in the role of the party guy.
We've got a cast from across the country: Shelby Surdam and Shelby
Cullinan are both from Austin, playing sisters. We also have local talents
Hannah Holub and Sean Koetting who get to do some GREAT character work.
Dino Maglaris has the unenviable task of playing... me. I'm also very
excited about some of our new talent coming in from out of town. Rachel
Clark-Spear and Xan Angelovich have been excellent additions as well. And
it wouldn't be a
Twitchy movie with the talents of Terissa Kelton and
Janet Mayson. As we speak, The Last Beautiful Girl
is still in its
fundraising stages - so what can you tell us about your
fundraising efforts?
It's been crazy. Nuts. We've been
trending on IndieGoGo and averaging about a grand a day. It's humbling and
exciting to see so many people getting involved.

Once your funds are raised, what's
the schedule? And any idea when and where the film might be released yet
(and I know it's probably waaayyy too early to ask)? We go
to camera in May with a hope for SXSW 2016. Fingers crossed! Any
future projects beyond TThe Last Beautiful Girl?
