Gwendolyn (like Robey in the 1980s, she only uses her first name,
presumably because her last name is so difficult to pronounce) is
a new indy film producer, director and actress who finally got her
start in the film world after years of planning and anticipation.
She has two films to her credit so far, with more to come.
Gwendolyn started working as a model while only 14 and still
attending New Philadelphia High School in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Upon graduation, she went right into the film world with the
production of her first project, titled Outside Of Nowhere. Oddly
enough, she used friends from school for many of the cast members
and in spite of this, the product worked well enough.
Outside of Nowhere combined several stories into one. Vampires
seek their own destruction, a drug dealer is haunted by the ghost
of an addict who died from a bad purchase, and other oddball
material. While distribution has been fairly limited thus far, it
has made various midwestern film festivals in the USA and more are
in the works.
In late 2005, Gwendolyn completed Edge Of Midnight, an X-Files
type film about two modern bounty hunters tracking supernatural
criminals who are missed by the police. The film should see
release to the general public in early 2006.
Edge of Midnight operated on a better and bigger budget than the
first project, adding Amy Best out of Pennsylvania - who has become
somewhat of a modern indy horror icon - and Robin Griggs out of
Cleveland to the cast. Others who played in Outside Of Nowhere
came back for this film as well. It was not without mishaps.
"When we were shooting in Stow at an apartment complex, some
nosey neighbors were looking outside and complained to the management
that we were shooting a poronographic film because women were
running around in lingerie outside," she complained.
"We have had some accidents and problems on set and at some
showings, like one presentation where they couldn't get a DVD player to work right, but this was a first. Hopefully, a last too.
I mean it is funny on one hand, but it is annoying on
another."
Gwendolyn was able to shrug this off though, for New Philadelphia,
where she grew up, is a relatively small town where people tend
not to mind their own business. She expected better though in
Stow, where the latest movie was being shot, as it is near Kent
State and would not be expected to be full of people sticking
their noses into other business.
Luke Menapace has been a regular in her films, mainly because he
was her friend throughout school [Click

he has little enthusiasm for acting itself and does so to help her
out. He did, however, put the actress over big when asked.
"She does everything, maybe even too much. Acting, producing,
writing, directing. She is multitalented, but it might go easy for
her if she got some more help and didn't try to do everything on
her own, plus she has so many other things going on too. She has a
day job and also designs and markets her own clothing line. She
does a lot of modeling shows. In fact she roped me into doing a
modeling show also in New Philadelphia. I don't know how she
finds time for anything."

Recently, she made an appearance at Twisted Weekend in
Cleveland
and also took part in a big book and DVD signing event in New
Philadelphia. The big cities and the small towns, all in one year,
have served as locations for her to make her appearances and get
word out on her projects.
She reportedly has two other scripts in the planning stage after
this one.
Not everyone agrees with some of her casting, as one film writer
at the New Philadelphia showing put it.
"Instead of playing the female hero, she should have played
the vampire role. With her loooks and her facial features, i think
she would have been better off casting herself in the vampire
role, as she looks like a vampire. She would make a good one. You
know, not an old or ugly one, but one of those seductive ones like
in I, Desire or Innocent Blood."
Maybe next time ...
