Several parties are searching for a treasure buried somewhere on a
- Hidalgo (Brad Harris) pretty much the owner of the
- Don Alfonso (Fernando Sancho), a Mafioso claiming the treasure
was stolen from him.
- Colonel Russ, who has stolen the treausre.
and El Guancho (Rudolf Zehetgruber), an alcoholic who has his own motives
to find the treasure and who has a weird and annoying spidery robot
sidekick and who drives Dudu the Superbug - which gets trashed early in
the film only to suddenly reveal itself to be a 6-wheeled amphibious dune
buggy ... of sorts.
Soon it becomes clear that El Guancho is actually in
the game just because he wants his revenge on Colonel Russ, for whom he
worked years ago, when he stole the treasure, and who shot all his
colleagues and left him out in the desert to die. El Guancho has soon
caught up with the Colonel, but he doesn't kill him or anything but plays
the different parties against one another so they bump each other off.
though, El Guancho takes it upon himself to save Lorenzo, Hidalgo's
nephew, and his nanny Maria (Kathrin Orginski) from Hidalgo's henchmen,
who want to kill them ... but with many a gadget, some explosives and the
help of his trusted robot, he not only sees to it that the boy and the
nanny (who falls in love with him) are saved but also that all the baddies
get their just desserts. And in the end, he gives up drinking, too.
the last of the Superbug films, this movie gets rid of Dudu
as we know it (a vintage yellow VW Beetle) rather quickly - within the
first five minutes - replacing it with an uneventful six-wheeler. Not that
we would miss the rather silly supercar too much, but the spidery robot
that takes over the funny part from the car is even more annoying.
whole, Return of Superbug is decidedly less than great, heck it's
not even good, a stupid action comedy with treasure-hunt elements. You
actually might find this one sort of funny in an unintentional retro sort
of way, but if you're not in a really good mood, chances are you'll just
find this one annoying and a complete waste of time.
