To prevent a major outbreak of the zombie virus, those infected are
rigorously shot - and that sends Aaron (Braeden Baade) on the run with his
girlfriend Rachel (Kathryn Kuhn), as he has been infected, but is only
extremely gradually turning. Thing is, with him infected there are not
many people who are willing to help them and those who are are not
especially trustworthy - so out of necessity, Aaron's shotgun becomes
their most reliable friend. Being on the run like that, they also learn
more about Aaron's infection, like that it didn't come about especially
accidental, and now that makes him a valuable asset for one of the parties
after him - an asset he has never cared to be ... A rather cool
variation on the zombie theme, adding elements of paranoia and conspiracy
thriller to the mix, while giving the whole thing a suitably gritty tone
and grindhouse feel - and all at a high pace with plenty of action,
fights, gunfights and chases. Maybe not the re-invention of the genre, but
a film that dares to think outside the box while still staying true to the
genre roots.
